Winter Pest Tips From Walker Pest Management
IHere in upstate South Carolina, winter finally decided to show up. To help you stay ahead of the pests follow a few simple tips.
1. Remove trash from the home nightly, especially food waste. If you can’t remove it every night make sure your trash cans seal tightly so that pests can’t get to a free meal.
2. Don’t leave food out. No matter what the reason don’t leave exposed food out overnight. If it has to be left out make sure it is put in an airtight container or sealed bag. That includes any snack or chip bags by the recliner or bedside.
3. Keep firewood at least 20 feet from the house. It may make for a little longer walk in the cold night air but keeping firewood too close to the house is like inviting cockroaches, earwigs, termites, and other similar pests into your home.
4. Ensure windows and doors seal properly. This means that you shouldn’t have gaps around your doors or windows. Make sure weather stripping is used properly or replace where damaged. Check those screens for any tears or holes. Make sure you check that crawlspace door too. Mice, rats, and even snakes can get into much smaller spaces than you’d think.
While doing these things is a great start to keeping your home pest free this winter, we would still recommend a maintenance service from a professional pest control company.
